Section 508 Accessibility Services

Vinq provides Section 508 assessment and remediation guidance that integrate the strengths of automated tools, web-related technical expertise, and experts in Assistive Technologies used by those with disabilities.

Under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act NIH and other Federal Agencies must ensure that electronic and information technologies (E&IT) are accessible to people with disabilities. The technical standards apply to web pages, web applications and documents delivered via the Internet. Several tools are available to help ensure that these technologies meet the requirements of Section 508. However, none of these tools can test all of the requirements; they all require human intervention and manual testing to provide an acceptable assessment. Further, these tools require informed professionals to set-up, run and interpret results.

Vinq offers two levels of service:

• Compliance Assessment
  • Vinq will assess compliance with Section 508 requirements of 36 CFR 1194.22 and prepare a brief report of findings and recommendations.
• Remediation Guidance
  • Vinq will assess compliance with Section 508 requirements of 36 CFR 1194.22 and prepare a detailed report of findings including guidance on how to correct each flow. In addition, Vinq experts can retest an application after corrections have been made. For complex projects assistive consulting to guide corrections is also available.
• Vinq also offers design-for-usability services that go even further than basic Section 508 compliance. For complex data sets such as maps or large spreadsheets, meeting the basic section 508 requirement means creating a long text list. Forcing a site visitor to listen to 100 items to get one data point of interest is not adequate accessibility. Vinq can develop interactive user interfaces that guide the selection of criteria to narrow the list to a manageable size.

Vinq services apply to all types of content served over the Internet. The complexity of any project will vary depending on the type. For standard web pages, Vinq offers a fixed priced service package to Government customers:

• $3,000 Fixed Price Offer — Vinq will assess compliance with Section 508 requirements of 36 CFR 1194.22 for 20 standard web pages including up to three diferent templates and prepare a brief report of findings and recommendations.
